I really do not understand why dasBlog is not a more popular blog engine. It is trivial to skin, requires no database, runs easily on IIS with the .Net 1.1 CLR, is simple to install and adequatly performant for 99% of the blogs out there. It supports blogger and MetaWeLog APIs.

Yet, when I look around at the popular engines, I find Moveable Type, Word Press, and TypePad. Firstly, I cannot understand why anyone would pay for a blog engine. Hosting services I get, I pay for them myself, but not a piece of software that is so available in the Open Source community that it is practically ubiquitous. Further, why would you want a database dependency?

I realize that Moveable Type doesn't require a DB and is free, but it requires Perl, which is no different in deployment terms than .Net. I would venture to say that installing the .Net CLR is easier than installing Perl on IIS.
