Jay Sherlock
I first met Jay in the fall of 1997. I was doing props for the show “Flaming Idiots”. Jay was one of the actors in the show. I remember it as being 4 weeks of some of the best fun I had ever had. Jay was the kind of actor that was always telling jokes and making the work enjoyable.
Over the last 10 years I have worked with Jay in several productions at Stage Coach Theater and had the fun of watching him perform in numerous plays around town. He was always great.
I remember when Jay had returned from New York from visiting his son. He was very excited about having seen the Producers on Broadway. We talked for over an hour about New York, Broadway and the Producers. I later saw the same show at the Morrison Center but I know from talking to Jay his experience was so much more then mine.
Jay died yesterday at 86. The Statesman has a good right up on him at http://www.idahostatesman.com/ourtowns/story/308725.html, but it does not really tell you what a great guy he was. I will miss him more then I can say. The world is a bit smaller place without him in it.
Goodbye Jay, and thanks for the memories.

I first met Jay at the same play and had the honor of sharing a stage with him…..Hard to do because when Jay was on stage he WAS the stage….Bigger than life and funny as hell…I’ve been working at the Idaho State Vets Home since december, night shift gets off in the morning so I got to visit Jay a couple or three times a week…Words can’t express the memories those visits and conversations left for me…..My Dad gave me a book of letters to and from Groucho Marx when I was a kid, on replying to the death of a friend Groucho said..” He was a nice man, that’s the best thing you can say about someone “.. Jay was a nice man…Gus
Jay was not only a nice man with a kind heart, great smile and enormous personality, he was the closest I would ever come to meeting Hemingway. I don’t know if it was his wonderful white hair or the way he could touch you heart with his eyes. There is a large gap in the acting community and the Earth now that he has passed. Thanks for all the great hugs and for being the only person I know to make my dad ‘almost’ break character on stage. Loves – Sara
