Google Mail Shut Me Down Hard

March 17th, 2008

I needed to send email updates to all of the Code Camp attendees on Saturday. At the end of registration for this year 522 people had signed up, and that meant one big spam.

I have been using Google Mail as the means by which I am spamming the Campers, so I did it again. This time there were several bounce backs from some of the emails.

Google turned off my send privileges for 24 hours. I could do anything in email I wanted, even save drafts. But, I could not send them.

That hurt. Mostly because they were right and I have turned into a spammer. At the same time, when your email is locked for 24 hours, a day seems like an awful long time.

I’m guessing that’s the response for having their CAPTCHA hacked :)

So now we know a spammer. I wondered if there is a reward for turning you in?
