Elegant Code Goes International!
We are happy to welcome our newest Elegant Code contributor, Jan Van Ryswyck. If that name sounds familiar, it is because Jan is the winner of our recent Elegant Code essay contest.
Jan lives in Belgium and is our first international contributor! Although we are happy to welcome him, we are fairly sure he won’t be making the trip to Boise for the monthly Elegant Coder lunch. Based on the excellent content on Jan’s current blog, his presence will be a great addition to Elegant Code.

But I don’t speak Flemish (this is an assumption, since you live on the northern/Flemish side of Belgium and not the southern/french side). Oh well, all that time spent learning Dutch will have to wait for another time.

As you may know, there are a lot of Flemish dialects. I don’t know and understand all of them either. I live close to the border with the Netherlands. Your last name sounds like a typical Dutch name too.

Close, my name is Friesian. Both my parents families came from the northern provinces of the Netherlands.
So I speak a little bit of dutch, but just words needed to get around a family farm (swear words mostly).
