Seriously though, its about continuious improvement, honing your craft. Get one book, learn a few things. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. This doghouse will probably still suck , but the next one will be better! (and get built faster, cheaper and of better construction)

For the record: I think TDD is essential for design, quality, maintainability, extensibility, and over all peace of mind.</description>
