You Should Maybe Learn MVC For Good Reasons (if you want, maybe)

April 23rd, 2009

So, Rob Conery says You Should Learn MVC.

And then Joe Brinkman replies, O RLY, cause I’m still waiting for a GOOD reason to do that

And then they get in a big fight, but at the end everybody is happy again.  For now.  Anyway, both are interesting points of view, with validity on all sides.  Worth spending a minute to read.

I suggest evaluating the situation you’re in, and picking the appropriate tools based on that.  Plus, I think MVC is really nice, particularly if you fix it up a little bit with a few well-placed “Opinions.”

I am waiting for someone to convince me that learning Asp.Net MVC is a bad idea and will make me a worse developer for it.

@Chris – You should definitely learn MVC. Whether it becomes your tool of choice is another question. But the knowledge gained in the learning process is well worth the effort as it can only make you a better developer.

Chris said ASP.NET MVC, not just MVC.

You would probably want to search for FUBU MVC and read what Jeremy and the other have to say about it.
I don’t know that the asp.net version is bad enough to not use it at this point though.

@Joe: I totally agree with you, in fact, what you just said is exactly the same reason I give to learn ASP.NET MVC (not only MVC).
