TekPub annual subscription giveaway

December 11th, 2009

I bought an annual subscription of TekPub and because of a special offering I got a additional annual subscription for free. Now instead of selling it I want to give it away. I already knew that doing something via Twitter didn’t work, so I decided to give you a little bit more time and use my blog instead.

I would just like to get the correct answers on the following questions in the comments section and then the first person to get them all correct will win the subscription.

  1. I use the name “Fohjin” for my github project, what does this name mean?
  2. What is the current name for the book that I am writing?
  3. What is the single digit that the free giveaway coupon code starts and ends with?
  4. What is the name of the _big_ Norwegian event for developers?
  5. How much do you value product knowledge f.ex. ASP.NET MVC? When do you learn this?
    Question 5 obviously cannot really be wrong, but I would appreciate an elaboration.
    For a consolidation prize I got Google to get me 20 Google Wave invites to giveaway! Woot!

So why did I get a subscription for TekPub and not Pluralsight, well mostly because a.t.m. TekPub has a few topics that really interests me, Git & NHibernate, and one that is on its way that is very cool as well.

    1. Your last name backwards
    2. Are You Better Than Yesterday
    3. 9, I actually have no idea and didn’t see this anywhere, it’s not published that I can find. So I’m guessing “9″ because it’s 2009 and it seems like a logical ending to the code.
    4. Norwegian Developer’s Conference
    5. What do you mean by product knowledge? I value knowledge a lot. It’s why I read AND write…to learn and share and learn from what I’ve shared. I think it’s interesting that you tagged this post with Kaizen (“continuous improvement”) since it’s also the “name” of your book. As far as local product knowledge to the product I am working on it’s important to learn both the product so that I can talk intelligently about it (ie. a sales person) but also learning the organization I’m in so the code reflects the organization or domain (ie. Domain Driven Design).

    Updating my answers:

    #2. “The Software Craftsman”

  3. December 12th, 2009 at 01:47 | #3

    1. There’s no special meaning, just your last name backwards.
    2. The Software Craftsman
    3. 2
    4. Norwegian Developer’s Conference
    5. I don’t really value product knowledge that much. I value knowledge of principles, patterns, … (for instance SOLID, OO design, DDD) over product knowledge. If you master the basic principles, you’ll manage your way through any product. The principles will always apply, while products will always change and get replaced. Also, product knowledge limits you to that one product, while not everyone uses that very product.

    @Tim Barcz
    @Stijn Guillemyn
    Ok question 1,2,4 and 5 are answered correctly first by Tim so if nobody can give me the answer for question 3 with correct/proper reasoning then Tim gets the Subscription. Lets say in a hour or so. Yes it is a bit of a silly question, but else it would have been just way to simple :)

    Coupon ends and starts with an 1, since its the 11th month, and ends with an 1 since its the second coupon of the pair you bought.

    I suppose i can try only once ;)

    @Tim Barcz
    Well I think we have waited long enough for this: The answer for question 3 was 3 :)

    Congratulations to Tim Barcz, I’ll send the coupon for the annual TekPub subscription via e-mail. I hope you Enjoy it as much as I do!
