BSDG Meeting post mortem

Last night we had a nice turnout (a bit small, but that just makes things cozy…right?)

Topics discussed:

WPF’ing in WinForms

   *dealing with namespace collisions

   *loading Xaml via code

   *load/save with XamlWriter and XamlReader

*InkCanvas control for free hand drawing

*Images in WPF and persistence issues with XamlWriter

JQuery : Pick a Javascript library and run with it   www.jquery.com

Microsoft AJAX Library : how it differs from JQuery (and why I think JQuery is better  😀  )

Microsoft AJAX Toolkit :  Callbacks at inappropriate times

Google Chrome : the uber cool new browser from Google (in which I am writing this email right now)

ReSharper 4.1 is released

DotNetKicks.com — where I get a lot of my cool news

Script# : a C# to Javascript compiler (note: a bunch of my Microsoft buddies in town are using this for their Javascript development on Performance Point and SharePoint — so Microsoft is dog-fooding this one)

Cayra MindMap :  a cool WPF mind map program (and free)

BabySmash : an open source, full screen wpf app for small children (lets them pound on the keyboard and fun stuff happens on the screen).  Written and maintained by Scott Hanselman (our Boise Code Camp keynote speaker), the code is available on CodePlex.

Ubiquity : an interesting new Firefox plugin.  It reminds me of Launchy and slickrun — for firefox.  It is supposed to allow for mashups in the browser.

Most of those were sub-topics.  If any of those catch your interest and you would like to talk about them further, please let me know.

Or…go to the upcoming Elegant Code Open Spaces event and bring it up as a topic.  See upcoming events below:

Upcoming Boise Events:

Elegant Code Open Spaces : September 9th, 6:30-8:30, Casa Mexico in Hyde Park

SQL Server User Group: SSIS with Rich Hundhausen : September 9th, 5:30

Idaho PC User Group: Amazon Web Services : September 11th, Boise Public Library, 6:30

NetDug: September 18 6:30, at a new location, topic unknown.

  1. I’m not quite sure NETDUG plan for September 18 has settled yet. netdug.com still says it’s canceled for September. I can tell you for certain it will NOT be at the Microsoft Boise office on 10th, nor the new one on 5th, as we’ll be in the midst of a move.
