I got on the road a little late, around 2:30 – 3:00
because I took some time to gear up at Andrew’s and the shop.
Thanks to the guys in the service department for their help in getting me underway,
they are good guys.
I shouldn’t even admit this, but I almost dropped the
bike in the parking lot getting it off of its center stand after it was loaded. If
it weren’t for Andrew and an anonymous BMW service tech catching the bike, it
would have gone down. Thanks, boys. I am working on that center stand dismount!
If that wasn’t enough, I cut my finger with my pocketknife
while installing my new Wolfman tank bag and bleed like a stuck pig in all over the
new bike. Bill, thanks for the bandages.
One thing I can tell you is that the range of the reserve
tanks is at least 12 miles. At least 5 of those miles were covered with a pucker factor
8. I just knew I was going to run dry, but I made it to a station where I put a whopping
8.3 gallons into the tank.
The
skies were looking pretty ominous and since I need a good night’s sleep after
those plane rides last night anyway, I got a room at a Comfort Inn in
Harrisburg
,
PA.
The bottom fell out of the rain bucket just after I got into my room, so that was
a good decision, I guess. I will push through to
Knoxville
tomorrow, and according to the weather channel here in the hotel, it’ll be a
ride in the rain. Good thing I got those new Tourmaster rain pants.
