I do not read science fiction often, if at all. Orbis is
a science fiction book within the sub-genre of alternate history. This
is kind of fun after you catch on to what is happening.
The Christian religion was instituted by aliens, the Benefactors, who are at war with
descendants of the ancient Romans, who have left earth and are now searching for it
again. The Benefactors use religion as a tool to manipulate the masses and quell
any uprisings.
There are cloned people used as slaves and cloned food stuffs sold on the cheap, and
this is a fun little diversion, because most of the clones are boogered up in some
way.
American Indians still roam the plains and all of the original Indian tribes are still
living freely in primitive tribal settings outside of major population areas in the
“Restricted Zone”.
Of course, the Romans find Earth and go to war with the Benefactors, ultimately enslaving
the earthlings and making things far worse than they were under the benefactors.
This is no sniper book, but a good moment does come when a priest climbs a clock tower
and begins picking off Romans with a hunting rifle, thereby making this a sniper book.
Awesome.
As I said, I do not usually read sci-fi, but I will be looking at this authors other
books. Orbis was a fun read.
