Boise Code Camp

What Is a Code Camp

A Code Camp is best described as a group of software development professionals gathering
for the purposes of furthering individual education. The actual criteria for what
constitutes a Code Camp can be read in the Code
Camp Manifesto
.

Code Camps have sprung up around the country in major
metropolitan areas
. On such group that I have loosely followed is the Portland
Code Camp
that was described as a success on Scott
Hanselman’s blog
.

Why Does Boise Need One

Code Camps are breeding grounds for emerging talent. The many brilliant people in
this valley would benefit from sharing their knowledge with one another. What a great
way to meet each other and foster a community.

Boise as a tech community is still growing its place on the map. Maturation of the
Boise technical scene to include more proprietary software solution companies will
drive infusions of good thinkers into the valley. Hey, this is a great place to live.

Traveling to Fawcette conferences, Tech Ed, and other forum based training opportunities
is expensive. Let’s roll our own.

A Call to Arms

This is a call to arms for presenters. I know several locals with extremely good ideas
and knowledge who could really use a chance to share it.

You know who you are: Raj, Matt, SpearMan,
T-Bone, Mule, Houges, The Don,
DMcCoyde, Poet, JayLo, Dray… we could fill an entire track. MonoRail, TDD, various
design patterns, agile practices, The List, automated regression, build systems, continuous
integration, CC.Net, MS Build, nAnt, nUnit, performance testing, etc.

Come on guys, don’t make hunt you. Go take a look at boisecodecamp.org and
hit me back or sign on there.
