Code Camps have gotten frustratingly little press lately. These grass roots
gatherings are the open source of technical conferences, and have accordingly
little fanfare. but remain the best free training opportunity available for developers.
The rub is simple; You have to be passionate enough about tech to actually spend time
on a weekend (gasp) honing your craft.
My own experience at Boise
Code Camp v1.0 back in March of this year was wholly rewarding, and I pledged
then to support the Code Camp initiative. Although several of the presenters
(including me) came across no better than contestants for Amateur Night
at the Apollo, there were plenty of professional and useful sessions.
Take a look at this impressive session
list for the upcoming Seattle
Code Camp v2.0. The careful reader will note that my name is on the list,
as I will be presenting a session entitled Valuing Defect Avoidance.
Defect avoidance is a principle near and dear to my heart and the people I work with
are no doubt sick of hearing about it. So, why not spread the love?
I will be flying in on Friday and out again on Sunday afternoon with a couple of my
coworkers. If anyone in Seattle would like to get together for dinner
on Saturday evening, shoot me an email.
