I am so happy! The Beta version of the replacement for has
shipped and I have it up and running here on my local box.
Community Server is
the long awaited followup to the blogging engine powering this site, written by Scott
Watermasyk. I expect the open source community to go nuts when this thing
goes gold, which rumors project for December. While Community Server is
designed to run huge blogging applications with many blogs, I just have the one single
blog on my box that I run and it does a fine job of that.
Here is a list of enhancements from Scott’s blog entry announcing the
beta.
- Search – blog, blog groups, and all blog level.
-
Blog Groups – currently only enables a blog to be in a single group,
but much better than the SQL
approach. -
Web Admin – All blogs can be created, configured, managed via a new admin
UI -
Multiple blog authors (blogger can edit more than one blog with a single
login) -
Multiple author per blog (more than one author per blog, with metablog
API support) -
The blogger can now override the post date (and this should determine
when a post goes live) - Private/Secure blogs
I can’t wait for the gold release.
