Newark to Boise – Day 3

Thanks to Frank for the suggestion of staying in Hampton Inn. Free Internet access,
and that makes Indiana the first state since NJ where I have been able to get
on-line.

Pics are now in the
gallery
! Also, I will keep the
map
up to date with genuine route information.

Today was a short day, only about 400 mi. I decided to knock off when I saw this Hampton
Inn so that I could get on-line and I took the time to go see a movie, “Man
on Fire”. When I pulled in off the road, I realized that at least my butt no
longer hurt. Because I CAN’T FEEL IT ANYMORE! Corbin stinks.

Today, I committed a sin. I stopped in a Harley shop in Athens, Ohio and added a set
of cruiser style foot pegs to my crash bars. I feel dirty, but it is a comfortable
dirty. This gave me at least 3 new riding positions.

As I continued west through Ohio and Indiana, the country just got flatter. There
was still plenty to gawk at though, as I saw the biggest artificial catfish on a campground
sign that I have ever seen in my life. Sorry no pic.

I finally set a wake up call so I can get on the road before noon. Late starts are
killing me. I want to be in St. Louis by noon tomorrow.

The bike is handling better today. I am finally starting to feel at home with it.
I had the chance to go for a quick ride with no luggage after checking in to the hotel
and it feels much lighter when unburdened by that all that gear. I wouldn’t call it
a flick-able crotch rocket, but it was lighter off the mark.

The front brakes squeal like scalded cats and they feel mushy. I am pretty sure
that I just need some fluid to tighten up the brakes, but the squalling I will deal
with later. The pads look OK, so I am wondering about the rotor. Time will tell. No
chattering when braking, so it isn’t warped.
