intraVnews

Although I usually use Newsgator as
my RSS aggregater, I thought I would see what else is out there.  Newsgator has
broadened their focus to try and get your RSS feeds to follow you around to multiple
devices and other such hooey, so I decided to poke around.  Reading within MS
Outlook is pretty much a  requirement for me as I have just gotten so used to
the paradigm.

I found a competing product, intraVnews,
which has received fairly good reviews from others.  The split on Newsgator vs.
intraVnews recommendations is fairly evenly split, so I figure they are probably similar.
Ya know what?  They are.

The differences that I noticed?

  • Newsgator has a summary page.  When you click on the the parent folder to your
collected feeds, you get an aggregate view of latest posts into all of your feeds.
    I never use it.
  • intraVnews has a different view of the posts themselves.  You can view the text
of the RSS XML or you can elect to have it pull the web page that originated the post
    into your mail.
  • intraVnews has 2 links at the bottom, one for the feedback page and one for the previous
    post.

Bottom Line

I still have Newsgator installed and have uninstalled the intraVnews demo.  The
products are so similar that I just couldn’t be bothered to care and I already have
a Newsgator license.
