Windows Blog Clients

I can no longer live with managing my blog through the HTML editor embedded in blog
engine web pages. I have a Jones for the Windows blog editor experience and the perfect
fix doesn’t seem to yet exist.

Denied

I have downloaded, installed, tried, and uninstalled all of the following blog editing
applications.

ecto

  • Poor support for MetaWebLogAPI

  • No image FTP upload capability

  • Crashed quickly.

w.bloggar

  • No WYSIWYG. Done.

BlogJet

  • The standard. This app gave me the Jones in the first place, but can no longer satisfy
    it.

  • BlogJet is just too amateurish in the UI

  • The editor needs more features, like table support

  • No post templates

  • BUT, it works.

Qumana

Can’t remember why I took a pass on this one.

Zoundry Blog Writer

Can’t remember why I took a pass on this one.

SharpMT

  • .Net 2.0 client. Nice.

  • Too bad I couldn’t get past the NullPointerExceptions.

  • I really hope this one sees some traction. Heck, if it were an Open Source project
    I might even contribute.

Not Yet Denied

I have installed the following applications and they are still installed. I will be
trying them during their trial periods and deciding which one to buy.

Post2Blog

  • Standalone editor, but let’s me post directly from MS Word. This is the way they should
    all work.

  • Weird interaction with MS Word. It actually launches the Print2Blog app when you post.

  • No table support unless you are editing via Word. The truth is, though, that if I
can edit in Word, I may just do that all the time.

  • This one is currently in the lead.

RocketPost

  • I like the UI, which is much like Outlook, with a 3 pane application model

  • Frequent (like daily) updates to the application

  • Still finding its feet. RocketPost still has a few bugs

  • FTP support was a major pain to get setup, but it works now.
