Last week I was able to attend a speaking engagement by retired Admiral Archie Clemmons about a $50 million technology grant proposal that he made to the Idaho legislature. Kickstand, a local entrepreneurial group I belong to, is dedicated to the enrichment and growth of small technology businesses and hosted the event.
Although Admiral Clemmon’s presentation was interesting in and of itself, one of the things mentioned at the meeting was a non-profit organization known as SCORE. Funnily enough, I cannot tell you what SCORE stands for and apparently neither can their website. Although I did catch “… of Retired Executives” during the presentation about the group. SCORE endeavors to provide executive coaching to small business people through the volunteer efforts of its’ retired members.
SCORE’s counselors are available as one-on-one mentors and are also active in providing various workshops for the active or aspiring small business owner.
From their website:
SCORE® is a nationwide organization of active and retired business men and women who volunteer their services to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs. SCORE® provides free business counseling and offers low-cost workshops on a variety of business topics. Perhaps most importantly, experienced SCORE counselors offer free, one-on-one, personal confidential counseling on all aspects of small business management from financing to manufacturing to marketing. This website enables entrepreneurs to conveniently access a wealth of relevant Idaho small business information.
For more information on SCORE and the services they provide, see their website.
If you are thinking or setting out on your own, this may be an invaluable resource for you.
