Pasting from Word
Warning: this is not a programmer post.
I had a little bit of text that I wanted to spell check. I am a particularly bad speller, bad enough that FireFox’s built in spell check is rarely helpful enough, as is Google. My tool of spell checking choice is Microsoft Word.
So I put the paragraph in to Word and found one misspelling. Copied the corrected word out of Word and into DotNetNuke’s WYSIWYG editor. It looked kind of funny after that. The font was wrong.
So I checked the source via source view and this is what I saw:

Just to reiterate: 400 lines of crap for one 12 letter word. Amazing.
Sadly, this no longer comes as much of a surprise to me. We use the InnovaStudio WYSIWYG at work in a few places, and I’m constantly re-informing the phone support staff that pasting anything from Microsoft Word into that editor will break something. I’ve seen the editor hang when trying to make heads or tails of it, and I’ve also seen every major browser (IE included) flat out give up when trying to render something that was pasted in from Word.
400 lines is pretty ridiculous though. I haven’t seen an instance nearly that bad yet.
I have seen this before, a comple pain, but I have found enso (http://humanized.com/enso/) the spell checker works a treat, select the word, and enso checks it for me, I can even do definitions, which is usefull if your spelling is as bad as mine 🙂
the only thing I have found is that the startup of the machine is slower than before, but its a small price to pay for the ability to check stuff easily, anywhere
